Bridget Jones’s Baby Just Walked The Runway In New York

Not all nepo babies are created equal. At the top of the pyramid, you have the Lily-Rose Depps, the Zoë Kravitzes, the junior Beckhams. Those born into a level of cultural relevance that makes superstardom seems inevitable. A little bit further down sits the largest (and London’s favourite) category: the industry nepo baby – e.g. children of successful creatives whose influence you can’t outrun however hard you try.

Casting directors cottoned on way back when. Whether its Maude Apatow and Sunday Rose holding court on the front row, or Lila Moss on the runway, the offspring of famous people are now a fixture at fashion week. The latest to enter the conversation, author Helen Fielding’s daughter, Romy Curran, who made her debut at Marc Jacobs earlier this week. In true proud-mum fashion, the Bridget Jones creator marked the moment on Instagram with a caption that felt nicely in line with her beloved everywoman: “Trying not to turn into Bridget’s mother saying, ‘Smile nicely for the camera, darling!’” Personally, I can practically hear Gemma Jones’s familiar chirp in my ear as I type, insistently questioning why all models insist on looking so serious.

Despite her family’s significant contribution to specifically British culture, Curran is based in New York, balancing university life with her modelling career. According to her mother, this currently involves alternating between practising a “fierce scary walk in high heels without tripping over or getting skirt tucked in pants”, and completing college homework. If this ultimately inspires another instalment in the Bridget Jones universe, I’m fullly onboard. Bridget Heads to New York? Someone get Richard Curtis on the phone!
