Matcha, PDRN, K-Beauty – This Product Is The Holy Trinity Of Buzzy Trends
Made up of 10,000 ppm Matcha-PDRN, vegan collagen and 13 peptides, the TirTir Matcha Calming Cream jumped to the top of my skincare “to try” queue as soon as it landed on my desk. A powerhouse of lauded skincare hero ingredients designed to soothe redness, support the skin barrier and give long-lasting hydration, it’s sure to become a hero buy for anyone with sensitive, eczema-prone or stressed-out skin.
Korean brand TirTir is perhaps best-known for its cushion foundation – the TirTir Mask Fit Red Cushion, which landed on UK soil only last summer, but has quickly won a legion of fans with its unusually large shade range for a K-beauty base product (39 hues) and its natural finish. But if that has been your only introduction to the label, it’s time to dig a little deeper and explore the skincare selection, which includes best-sellers Milk Skin Toner and Watrism Lip Plumper.
New to the range is the Calming Cream, whose consistency is akin to the sort of gloopy slime that ‘90s kids will be familiar with. Described by the brand as a “bouncy Matcha pudding”, the texture certainly has bounce, reforming its original shape almost immediately.
The star ingredient, matcha, has boomed in the wellness community as a coffee alternative that offers more sustained energy release. It has similarly been coopted in the skincare industry, calling on its antioxidant properties to neutralise the impact of environmental stressors, calm inflammation and even control acne as an antibacterial.
PDRN has similar acclaim. Polydeoxyribonucleotide traditionally comes from salmon DNA (sperm, like polynucleotides, but with a shorter chain for speedier penetration to skin), and has become an increasingly popular K-beauty export. Vegan alternatives have sprung up, with matcha as the source in this particular cream.
