David Jonsson Is Coming For Paul Mescal’s Cardigan Collection

Paul Mescal has spent a significant amount of recent time in Roman kilts (see 2024’s Gladiator), and Shakespearean jerkins (see 2026’s current weepfest Hamnet), so it’s unsurprising that there’s a new contender for the coveted title: King of the Cardigan. While half the women in East London can look to British brands, including &Daughter, Charles Jeffrey, Hades and av vattev for the Maynooth native’s knitwear compendium, they too can now drool over the chunky knit yarn housed in David Jonsson’s burgeoning collection.

His cosy knitwear collection taps into a current penchant for literary-chic looks, as demonstrated here at the 2026 BAFTA Nominees event in January 2026.

At the Critics’ Circle Theatre Awards in London over the weekend, Jonsson opted for a sumptuous pink tweed mohair cardigan, paired with green silk cargo pants, a white shirt and a striped tie. The Rye Lane and Wasteman star is best known for his Gucci red-carpet looks (he picked up his milestone Rising Star gong at the 2025 BAFTAs in a Gucci tux with a Swarovski embroidered vest and a satin bow tie), but his Louis Vuitton cardi moment tapped into fashion’s current penchant for literary chic. Another recent library-ready look? Last month, Jonsson joined Aimee Lou Wood on stage in London to announce the 2026 BAFTA award nominees, wearing a chunky V-neck jumper and shirt, paired with a pinstripe blazer.

Before his BAFTA win, Jonsson told Vogue of his admiration for the style of Sammy Davis Jr and the Rat Pack. An image of Sammy Davis Jr in 1956 sporting a V-neck shirt beneath a carnation red cardigan suits the moodboard for the Industry actor’s recent red-carpet approach. Somewhere on set, Paul Mescal’s hoop earring is shaking.
