Lyma Laser Vs Lyma Laser Pro: Vogue Breaks Down The Differences

There’s no beauty tech quite as coveted as the Lyma Laser. Half shrouded in celebrity-laden mystery, half a staple in aesthetician arsenals, the at-home laser has kept audiences rapt since its 2020 launch.

Users report brighter, firmer, more even-toned skin as a result of using the device for a significant period of time – three months seems to be the sweet spot for reaping the rewards of consistent use – and the sleek, cylindrical casing is about as chic as it comes.

Then, in 2024, the brand announced a new tool, the Lyma Laser Pro – a larger, more powerful cold-laser device with a wider head. Here, Vogue breaks down the differences (and similarities) between the two devices.

Size

The most obvious upgrade is the size. Where the Lyma Laser covered 8cm² of skin at a time, the Pro targets 30cm². This change in dimension makes it suitable for larger areas of the body, like the underarms, knees, stomach and neck, as well as the face and ears. Because of this change in dimension, the Lyma Laser Pro is bulkier but would still fit well in a suitcase for travel, though maybe not quite as well in a handbag for on-the-go use.

  • Why it’s Vogue-approved: A step up from red light in terms of the depth its beams penetrate, Lyma’s device combines low-level cold laser therapy with NIR to rejuvenate skin from the inside out. This handheld tool can treat fine lines everywhere on the face and body – from the crow’s feet to hands and lips – and offers impressive results for deep-set concerns like pigmentation and scarring. What’s more, it fits inside your handbag and is still effective when used over your SPF or make-up. Great for the jet setter who needs on-the-go treatments, it’s no wonder this device is beloved by the celebrity set.
  • Device type: Handheld
  • Best for: deep-down skin rejuvenation. Tightening lax skin, renewing dull skin and remodelling skin with scars. Several users praise the non-invasive device for its anti-inflammatory effects on conditions like psoriasis.
  • Target area: Face, body, neck and hands
  • Treatment Time: Three plus minutes daily
  • Good to know: As well as whole face rejuvenation, try using it for five minutes on targeted areas like acne scarring and persistent sun spots.

Potency

The Lyma Laser Pro contains three lasers compared to the Lyma Laser’s one. This translates to three 500mW near-infrared lasers at a wavelength of 808 nanometres for a total of 1450mW. The Lyma Laser has one 500mW near-infrared laser that also operates at a wavelength of 808nm. Naturally, tripling the number of near-infrared lasers within the device creates a more powerful output to the tune of 3x.

  • Why it’s Vogue-approved: Lyma’s upgraded Laser Pro combines three of the original lasers into one powerful device, totalling an impressive 1450mw of near-infrared light. Larger than the original Laser, it targets everything from a loss of firmness to stubborn dullness. Best for at-home use or for when you’re travelling with a carry-on or suitcase.
  • Device type: Handheld
  • Best for: deep-down skin rejuvenation and significant skin and body care concerns. The three lasers treat everything from sunspots to scarring, dullness, a loss of elasticity and general laxity.
  • Target area: Face, body, neck, hands, limbs
  • Treatment Time: Three plus minutes daily

Price

The Lyma Laser is currently one of the most expensive at-home tools on the market. For converts, though, the price is well justified.

“In terms of devices I’ve used that have had a noticeable impact on the texture of my skin (I’m mainly talking evenness of tone and elasticity), nothing I have tried comes close,” says regular British Vogue contributor Georgia Day. “Everything just looked tighter, fresher and clearer, the sort of skin texture I imagine you’d have if you lived a wholesome life imbibing green juice, wearing no make-up and going on invigorating country walks every day.”

The original Lyma Laser retails at £1,999 but can be found on sale for 25 per cent reduced at £1,425.99. The Lyma Laser Pro costs £4,995.

How to pick the best Lyma Laser for you

With consistent use, each of the Lyma Laser devices will deliver impressive results. From improving elasticity to treating sun damage, smoothing texture and reducing inflammation.

The most salient factor will be the price. The Pro is over double the price of the original, but then there are triple the lasers baked into the device. That said, the Pro will target more skin more quickly, whereas the original targets smaller areas at a time. The original Lyma Laser can be stashed in a handbag, ready to pluck out at a moment’s notice, while the Pro is more suited for at-home, same-place, same-time use.

For significant or stubborn skin concerns, the Pro is likely to show improvement more quickly. However, if your budget only stretches to the original Lyma Laser, know that you’re still receiving a world-class at-home treatment.
