Jennifer Lawrence Puts A Frazzled English Spin On Upper East Side Essentials
Way back in the Noughties, it was of paramount importance for celebrities to appear “relatable.” How things have changed. Megastars, such as Jennifer Lawrence, are no longer burdened by the pressure of being “just like us”, and are free to live out their Upper East Side lives (almost) in peace.
Rarely pictured in anything other than head-to-toe The Row, the actor has truly embraced the spirit of quiet luxury by adopting the Lily van der Woodsen uniform of Hermès bags and eye-wateringly priced neutrals. It feels slightly pointless to note that the Birkin – the most famous designer bag of all time – has had a resurgence this year thanks to the record-breaking sale of Jane Birkin’s original model, but Lawrence does seem to be embracing the original It-girl’s approach to fashion, and is pictured with her Kelly slung open with reckless abandon.

While this is the only way to really wear a Hermès bag (just look at Kate Moss with her sand-filled Kelly), Lawrence’s interpretation has a British feel to it. Paired with an oversized autumnal scarf, the undone take on the stealth wealth wardrobe wouldn’t look out of place on a haphazard heroine living in Borough Market. Like the Olsen twins before her, it takes real style to make something so polished look slightly ramshackle – a reminder that a slightly frazzled spirit always wins, whatever the price tag.
