Best Hyaluronic Acid Body Wash To Hydrate And Soothe Skin
Our skin is the largest organ in the human body, and one of the most important. And while many of us will have a curated selection of nourishing creams for our face, the rest of the body can often be left to fend for itself.
Come winter though, you may start to notice that your skin feels dry and itchy. You may even see flaking, cracking or redness. These are signs that the skin barrier has been compromised. From central heating to low humidity to long, hot showers, there are many reasons why your skin may be feeling the effects of the changing season. But to combat this, an army of moisturising bodycare will do the trick – and that begins with your body wash.
Soft, gentle body cleansers will combat further moisture loss, soothe the skin and help prevent irritation – and the ingredient that you should be looking out for is none other than hydrating hero hyaluronic acid. The skincare ingredient is a multitasking powerhouse. Dr Ewoma Ukeleghe, a medical and cosmetic doctor, tells us that it is, “A natural molecule in the skin that holds water, keeping it hydrated, plump and smooth”. She adds, “It can be applied topically through serums and creams to replenish moisture levels, leaving skin softer, smoother, and more supple”.
In a body wash, hyaluronic acid works slightly differently from the facial care alternatives. Dr Ukeleghe explains, “In skincare products like serums and moisturisers, it penetrates the surface and attracts water to the skin, helping to lock in hydration for longer-lasting effects. Because these products remain on the skin, they provide a deeper and more noticeable benefit”. While, when it comes to your body wash, “Since the product is rinsed off, it cannot deliver the same lasting effects. Instead, it helps the cleanser feel more gentle, preventing skin from feeling overly dry or tight after washing, and supporting a softer, smoother finish”.
The doctor says that while the hydration boost may be temporary, there are longer-term benefits from switching up your stripping soap to one with hyaluronic acid during ablutions. “It helps counteract the drying effects that soaps and other surfactants sometimes cause, leaving the skin more comfortable”. She stresses that to protect your skin long after you’ve stepped out of the shower, you should follow these body washes with hyaluronic acid with equally nourishing HA-based lotions. “For long-term hydration and visible improvement in skin texture, leave-on products like moisturisers, serums, or creams with hyaluronic acid are far more effective”.

A chic addition to your shower caddy, the aesthetics are just the beginning of why you should add Salt & Stone to your daily ablutions. The brand has created five aromas, each as sumptuous as the last, with combinations like bergamot and hinoki, neroli and basil, black rose and oud, or my personal favourite, santal and vetiver. But it’s the ingredient list that will seal the deal with supercharged components like antioxidant and brightening vitamin C, skin barrier supporting niacinamide, prebiotics to balance the skin’s microbiome and last but certainly not least, hyaluronic acid.
From aesthetic doctor Dr Barbara Sturm’s eponymous collection comes Body Wash, a practical name for a practical product. The gentle cleansing formula contains hyaluronic acid at its heart that is paired with prickly pear extract to double down on the intense moisturisation that it provides. But to leave skin silky soft, it’s the inclusion of sweet almond extract and almond oil that we can thank. The product has a gel texture and is fragrance free, so it should be suitable for all skin types, even those with sensitivities.
Joonbyrd was founded by dermatologist Dr Alexis Granite, who has created one of my favourite products of all time, the Moon Swim Body Wash. Every shower is a luxury experience with this rich gel wash. The smell alone is enough to have you lathering it on, and the irresistible sweet honey aroma lasts throughout the day, long past your rinse. The idea is that you squeeze it into your hands, lather it up by rubbing them together and coating your limbs in the skin-supporting formula of vitamin E, prebiotic inulin, a superfruit blend and hyaluronic acid to leave your body smooth, nourished and hydrated.

The size of the Naturium The Booster Hyaluronic Acid Body Wash ensures it will be a fixture in your cleansing rituals, which makes the price tag incredibly affordable. You only need a little of the gel wash at a time. One pump is enough to cover the entire body, and you feel like you have had a thorough cleanse. The ingredient line-up reads like a nourishing dream: vitamins B5 and B12, glycerin and beta-glucan. But the icing on the cake is the hydrolysed hyaluronic acid and not one but seven molecular weights of sodium hyaluronate for deep moisture imparting.
Q+A
Hyaluronic Acid Body Wash
This budget-friendly option from Q+A offers great bang for your buck, and with that price tag, you’ll want to stock up. The brand has kept the ingredient list minimal, and for that reason, it can be used on sensitive skin. The formula is almost all natural – 97 per cent in fact – calling on more than just the named hyaluronic acid. There is also soothing aloe vera, seaweed extract and saccharide isomerate, the latter of which is an active, which helps to lock in moisture long after you have stepped out of the shower.
