7 Unforgettable Beauty Details From Couture Week
Maison Margiela brought hidden beauty, shrouded in mystery and distortion to couture week this season. Glenn Martens showcased a collection that was (in part) made up of upcycled materials, including paper, junk jewellery and tin plates. Models sauntered down the runway like faceless spectres in delightfully peculiar masks evoking a reimagined gothic eeriness. Make-up artist Inge Grognard was on the scene, applying tattoo art to the models’ bodies and adjusting each mask so that it sat just so.

Black lipstick has once again been brought to the fore by Dame Pat McGrath. “It’s almost a study of black and white photography,” McGrath shared with British Vogue backstage. “So, as we always do at Schiaparelli, the skin is very angelic and highlighted with beautiful, gleaming skin texture with the glass skin spray (the Skin Fetish Glass 001) on the cheekbone area alone.”
In contrast, creative director Daniel Roseberry and McGrath chose to incorporate just four looks that celebrated the classic red lip. “I wanted a really modern take. That’s where we went with the power of the lip and the power of the mouth,” McGrath added. “It’s all about contrast.”

For Iris Van Herpen, the absence of eyebrows created a feeling of alien ethereality. Models’ brow bones were coated with an opalescent colour, creating an otherworldly look. “Luminous coral forms emerge in fire-flamed brass, hand-sculpted into reef-like clouds that drift and gather around the body,” make-up artist Andrew Gallimore shared. “The silhouettes trace the invisible threads between body and biosphere and the fragile interdependence that binds them.”
