Julia Roberts Just Revisited Her “Main Character” Updo From The ’90s
Known for her tumbling auburn curls and love of tailoring, Julia Roberts has long been an autumn (though really, year-round) muse. In New York on Wednesday, Roberts threw it back to her early days in the spotlight, wearing what appeared to be a nostalgic nod to her famous Golden Globes outfit from 1990.
Roberts wore a slouchy dark grey suit over a shirt in a paler shade, adding a tie that harked back to her iconic Armani moment. The other retro element of her look? Her softly styled, ’90s updo, which evoked Julia’s night at the opera in the classic rom-com Pretty Woman.
Roberts’s bangs were swept to one side over her forehead – just how her character Vivian Ward styled her curls for her big night out in the film – the bulk of her hair styled in a delicate twist at the back. Earlier on that same day, she was seen with a similar hairstyle. The only difference? Face-framing tendrils that enhanced her cheekbones.
The star has worked with her hairstylist Serge Normant for over 30 years on all manner of looks, from bombshell ’70s curls to beachy waves. “We met when she was filming The Pelican Brief [the 1993 film in which she starred with Denzel Washington],” Normant previously shared with British Vogue. “We were on a shoot with François Nars and Herb Ritts in Louisiana – she fell asleep in my chair and we became friends very, very quickly.”
