The Cat Eye Nail Trend Will Ensure Your Manicure Is Autumn-Ready
Vogue’s social media manager, Hannah Daly, is a recent convert. “I wanted to get my nails done ahead of London Fashion Week, and while I’m not afraid of a fun nail, I do normally just stick to what I know,” she says. “So the cat eye was the perfect alternative: something fun, but also within my comfort zone of an autumnal red.”
The effect is created with a nail polish or gel that contains magnetic particles – a magnet is then held over the top to form shapes while it’s wet. “After applying the polish, a magnet held close to the nail causes the particles in the paint to move,” explains Humphrey.
While it’s quite a difficult technique to recreate at home, your nail technician can create lots of amazing effects – Humphrey loves layering several different cat eye gels, so “you have more than one detail on the nail”. By layering, using the magnet, curing and repeating, you can create the ultimate eye-catching manicure. “You can also layer sheer gels over the top to achieve multiple colourways,” she adds.
