Margot Robbie Commits To The Bodice-Ripping Bit In Vintage Mugler
It seems like every time I open one of the cursed little apps on my phone, there’s a new snap of Margot Robbie – either dressed down in incognito airport mode (Saint Laurent hoodie, Yankees cap), or treating us to a ’70s-style blast from the past in flared denim and Chanel. And when she isn’t putting a movie star spin on jeans and a T-shirt, Robbie has been leaning hard into the underwear-as-outerwear trend. Case in point: the Mugler cone bra and the bedazzled, barely there Armani Privé creation she wore while promoting A Big Bold Beautiful Journey in London last week.
For the film’s New York premiere, Margot – whose role in Emerald Fennell’s forthcoming Wuthering Heights adaptation has fans in a flap from the trailer alone – continued her naked dressing campaign, opting for a bodice-ripping Mugler gown that would doubtless make Heathcliff weak at the knees. The look – inspired by Mugler’s spring/summer 1998 collection – felt more in keeping with the Bridgerton take on period drama dressing than anything an 18th-century aristo might wear to stomp around the dark and stormy Yorkshire moors.

When the Wuthering Heights teaser trailer dropped last week – complete with heaving bosoms and a Charli xcx soundtrack – one X user called it the “matcha Dubai chocolate labubu of film”. Promising historically inaccurate corsetry and steamy bread-making sequences, it remains to be seen whether Fennell’s third feature will feature a meta twist that explains the dirndl-core styling. (TikTok’s best theory: it’s all in Cathy’s imagination.) Either way, Robbie’s Mugler moment proves that there’s nothing wrong with taking a little creative license when it comes to the red carpet.
